BMT Asia Co. recently conducted a fire drill with a difference. Led by Saravuth Rattanachongkiat, Managing Director, BMT staff recently undertook the “Annual Refresher Fire Drill and Fire Evacuation Training 2020″. It was more than your average drill.

This drill simulated a real life emergency. With real fire. The team from Phraeksa Fire Station recreated the kinds of emergency situations they are confronted with in their work, and carefully led BMT staff through how to manage different kinds of fires and evacuation procedures.

“This annual drill reinforces our associates’ knowledge in handling circumstances arisen during emergencies through both practical training and education,” says Saravuth Ratthanachonkiat.

Employees were then given the opportunity to learn through hands on experience with a range of different scenarios. For example, handling fires that can occur after hours. In the training, staff were confronted with having to deal with a scenario involving a fire in the Programmable Logic Controller room. The fact that BMT handles mercury waste added considerable complexity to the scenario, which staff handled capably. This practical experience is critical to maintaining BMT’s high health and safety standards. All BMT staff located at the Bangpoo Industrial Estate attended the training.

Safety is at the heart of everything we do at BMT. It’s at the core of why we exist. We work SAFER.

The team from the Phraeksa station was impressed with how focused BMT staff was during the training and how quickly they were able to demonstrate their newly acquired fire fighting skills. Staff also reported that they found the training both rigorous and rewarding. They particularly appreciated the opportunity to go beyond the classroom for a comprehensive learning experience – one that is updated annually.
