New dynamic retorts will give BMT the opportunity to process mercury contaminated waste faster, more effective and in a more sustainable manner. Thus provide a mercury waste management capacity increase to provide for the increasing market demand. This innovation will allow BMT to double the production processing capability in Australia up to 2,000 ton per year, therefore maximising its current approved processing quota. The proposed additional warehouse capacity allows BMT to better stage its production to ensure that handling, processing time and cost are minimised and improve treatment methodologies.
Dilution and/or blending of mercury contaminated waste with other waste going to landfill, is not the way BMT processes mercury or mercury impacted materials because of our commitment to total end-to-end mercury management, the highest standards on environment and sustainability. As such, BMT stabilises the mercury recovered from our waste treatment processes and have this disposed in a specialised geological repository in UN approved sealed drums.
