Samut Prakarn, Thailand — July 2025

BMT Asia Co., Ltd., Thailand’s leading mercury waste management specialist, had the pleasure of welcoming the Environment Support team from PTT Exploration & Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP), accompanied by trainees from Chulalongkorn University, for a technical site visit to its mercury treatment facility in Samut Prakarn.

The visit formed part of a knowledge-sharing initiative aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of the full-spectrum mercury-contaminated waste management process — from reception and recovery to final disposal — in  full compliance with Thailand’s environmental regulations and international standards, including the Minamata Convention on Mercury.

As a dedicated knowledge-sharing hub, BMT Asia is proud to support learning not only for valued clients in the energy and industrial sectors but also for Thailand’s next generation of environmental professionals. This visit marked another meaningful step in BMT’s ongoing mission to bridge practical industry expertise with academic and institutional learning.

During the tour, participants were guided through BMT’s advanced mercury recovery operations, observing first-hand how various forms of mercury waste are carefully treated using Thermal Desorption and Vacuum Distillation Technology — a method that ensures safe, efficient recovery while minimizing environmental impact.

“Our patented system is engineered not only for mercury recovery efficiency but also with a strong emphasis on environmental and worker safety,”
explained Mr. Tanatis Sakuma, BMT Asia’s Operation and Excellence Manager.
“It significantly reduces toxic emissions, mercury exposure activities, and overall disposal costs — while also preventing dust dispersion, fire risks, and explosion hazards. This reflects our commitment to industrial safety and innovation.”

The visit also showcased BMT’s holistic application of the waste management hierarchy and circular economy principles. Visitors gained insight into BMT’s end-to-end strategy, including residue management, where treated material is responsibly routed for further utilization in other industries, and the reintegration of recovered elemental mercury in strict adherence to the Minamata Convention — supporting environmentally sound reuse and contributing to global mercury risk reduction.

“We are honored to share our expertise and facilities with PTTEP and Chulalongkorn trainees,” said a BMT spokesperson.

It’s part of our mission to be more than just a disposal provider — we are a circular, compliant, and committed partner in mercury management for both industry and education,”
